Three Kings

This 1930's home in Three Kings was full of character and charm but wasn't quite working for my client who liked to entertain and wanted to update and give personality to her home. The ultimate brief was re-furnish the lounge and dining area and re-work the kitchen to achieve a stylish more user friendly space suitable for entertaining, yet sympathetic to the style of the house.

All the furniture in the lounge area was changed. The two oversized couches were replaced by a gorgeous new sofa covered in a textured neutral fabric and cushions in a gorgeous embroidered fabric to bring in some subtle colour. We chose tub chairs that really suited the era of the house and the style of the room. The coffee table needed to be large so we went with a glass top to not be too overwhelming. Colours were chosen that suited the client's personality and worked in with her extensive art collection.

The heavy TV stand was removed and the old rimu mantle was stripped and turned into a floating shelf to house the TV in a quirky way. this had the added bonus of freeing up valuable space for traffic flow through the lounge to the dining area.

The dining area wasn't really working so we had a bespoke banquette seat made which makes for a cosy inviting area and makes much better use of the space. The addition of a collection of cushions gives the added advantage of a sunny corner to nestle in the sun with a good book.

The kitchen was very tired indeed and although it had a large footprint the working space was cramped and awkward. The old pantry was ripped out and reshaped for maximum storage and usability, more a butlers pantry, with a beautiful solid rimu door from the house to add character. The new kitchen is very simple and sleek. A classic elegant deep charcoal navy was chosen for the cabinetry to complement the stunning marble bench tops. The old-fashioned tiny sink was replaced with a more user-friendly shape and size with the addition of a mixer with pull out spray head and the old stove was replaced with a new oven and gas hob. The outcome is a perfect working kitchen that looks fabulous and flows nicely into the open plan dining/living area.
